JAMES D. BLUME is the managing member for the firm Blume & Associates, located in Rockwall, Texas. He has held various positions with the State Comptroller's Department, including Director of Claims and Associate Deputy Comptroller. As Associate Deputy Comptroller, Mr. Blume supervised the legal services and hearings divisions and established the Administrative Law Judge program. He also had authority over the fiscal side of the comptroller's department. Mr. Blume was asked to serve on the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee for the Texas Supreme Court after acting as an investigator and chairman to the Dallas subcommittee. He holds appointment by the State Bar of Texas as a Special Assistant Disciplinary Counsel and has prosecuted a number of cases against attorneys for misconduct. Mr. Blume is a certified mediator and has mediated numerous cases. He has published articles on state taxation issues, legal ethics, non-profit corporations, and trial preparation for paralegals. Mr. Blume received his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Cornell University and his J.D. degree from The University of Texas School of Law.
STEVEN E. CLARK is a solo practitioner of Clark Firm PLLC. With more than 38 years in private practice, he focuses his practice on labor and employment law, while continuing to form business entities, handling myriad employment law issues, including audits, compliance, the review and drafting company agreements and policies, and related litigation defense. Mr. Clark concentrates his practice on business formation, contractual agreements and advice, business and commercial litigation, employment and labor law, general civil litigation, health care and construction. He has assisted business clients in the review and drafting of agreements, and the acquisition and sale of assets. He also has represented franchisors and franchisees and handled franchise litigation. Mr. Clark has lectured and written on subjects such as choice of business entity considerations, trade secrets, non-competition agreements, partnerships, construction law, employment law, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). He is also active in handling federal Department of Labor (DOL) and state (TWC) and health integrity/ZPIC audits/investigations of employers and small businesses, and defending related litigation. Mr. Clark is licensed to practice before U.S. Supreme Court; U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, Federal Circuit; and all federal and state courts in Texas. He has been honored with inclusion in Texas Super Lawyers since 2011 and is lead counsel rated in business law. Mr. Clark authored a book on Texas employment law forms and does an annual update for Texas Employment Law on employment law and the Family and Medical Leave Act. He earned his B.A. degree and J.D. degree, with honors, from the University of Houston.
ANDREW T. FIFIELD is of counsel with Touchstone, Bernays, Johnston, Beall, Smith & Stollenwerck, L.L.P. Mr. Fifield is board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Since 1989, he has served as defense council for insurance litigation, mass torts, personal injury, premises liability, products liability and trucking industry liability. Mr. Fifield earned his B.A. degree at Wabash College and his J.D. degree at Southern Methodist University. He is a member of the Dallas and American bar associations, the State Bar of Texas, Texas Association of Defense Counsel, Dallas Association of Defense Counsel and Defense Research Institute, Inc.
KENNETH P. KULA is a trial attorney with Buether Joe & Carpenter LLC. He has more than 20 years of experience representing individuals and companies in complex litigation involving intellectual property, such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. Mr. Kula also practices in the areas of technology law and general litigation. He has represented clients, as plaintiff and defendant, and has tried both bench and jury trials in state or federal court in various courts throughout the United States. Mr. Kula has served as an adjunct professor at Washburn University School of Law, where he taught courses on patent law and intellectual property. He is active in the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and will be teaching at its upcoming Building Trial Skills program at Southern Methodist University. Mr. Kula also served as an ethics investigator for his local bar association. He has been invited to speak by various organizations on a variety of topics, including intellectual property litigation, copyright law and the construction industry, ethics, and electronic discovery. Mr. Kula is admitted to practice law in Texas, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. He has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and before various federal district courts. Mr. Kula is, or has been, a member of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) and various state, city and other local bar associations.
